The Salsa Vaya is a light touring bike that is extremely versatile and will perform on a wide range of surfaces from road to gravel to dirt. I can verify that it can carry heavier loads but you will definitely notice an increase in sway with weight. There are quite a few options when it comes to the Vaya including the APEX, TIAGRA, VAYA 3, CLARIS, DEORE, GX, X9, and Ti. Surely there will be more to come in the future as well. I recommend scoping out Salsa’s website and even viewing their archived bikes if you’re interested in a Vaya model that isn’t new anymore. Pick your Vaya model and view specs here.
-Terrain versatility. CroMoly frame absorbs shock partnered with the ability to ride 700c x 42 w/o fenders or 700c x 38 with fenders.
-Enjoyable fully loaded or naked. Feels great and moves quickly without any gear.
-Shimano Sora Triple Chain Ring Set- great for climbs
-Avid BB7 disc brakes
-Thinner tubing makes the bike sway more as you increase the touring load.
-Salsa fork has double eye-let drop outs for rack mounting but only a single eye-let on the fork sides.
