The REI Quarter Dome has been around for quite sometime now and for good reasons. REI listens to user feedback and keeps making it better. In 2017, they made the vestibule 46% larger and introduced new pole architecture that increased head and shoulder room by 49%. The QD1 lands in the best bang for your buck category, especially when factoring the high cost of most ultra light and lightweight tents. This tent is also offered in 1, 2, and 3 person sizes. This tent packs nicely.
-REI no questions asked return policy!!!!
– Weight 2lb 7oz.
-Ease of use. You can have this thing set up and ready to go in 2 to 3 minutes.
-Peak height of 42 inches. I am 6’2 and can sit straight up no problem. This is one of the main reasons I purchased this tent. This feature is one to considered when purchasing because you may encounter bad weather that keeps you off the bike and in the tent.
–FLY/FOOTPRINT MINIMALIST APPROACH lets you just use the poles, footprint, and fly as a shelter. No Tent. This feature decreases the weight.
-After years of use, material on the under side of the rain fly started flaking. Although, it has retained its waterproofness.
-Doesn’t come with the footprint. You have to buy that separately or use something else.
-It would be nice if they added an extra tent stake loop in the middle of the tent on both sides to maximize the internal surface area.
